DB's top tools

We wouldn’t get very far without creative, powerful, collaborative apps and software, so we’re taking a few moments to shine a light on the tools that we use every single day to help us in our creation process.

Articulate Storyline

A slide based authoring tool and the one we use most frequently.  There’s a range of in-built templates, button, interactions, characters, but it’s also highly customisable.

Adapt

Adapt is a free authoring tool for creating HTML5 eLearning content.  It’s responsive so it provides an optimised viewing experience across multiple devices.

HOWL

It’d be weird if we didn’t use our own review tool for our eLearn projects. With feedback messages all gathered in one place, HOWL streamlines the review process so that reviewers, developers, designers and stakeholders can all stay on track. HOWL’s smooth, stylish interface make it a visually engaging experience for all.  HOWL is currently under Beta testing - due to launch this spring!

Adobe CC

The creative potential of Adobe is unparalleled, so it’s no surprise that we like to use it to create our design concepts and final artwork. From illustrations, icons, web design, print layouts, storyboards, pdfs to motion graphics and animation, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects and Animate are part of our standard workflow.

Trello

Trello is a great place to gather ideas in a mood board sort of style. From concepts to external resources, it’s easy to see references, inspirations, and our design progression.

Slack

Our messenger of choice in the office, Slack is great for grouping conversations (#pizza channel anyone?) and it’s really easy to upload files and screenshots for sharing things quickly.

SCORM Cloud

We use SCORM Cloud to upload test SCORM packages to an environment that simulates how it would work inside an LMS. It’s useful because it generates a SCORM log, allowing us to analyse what's going on whilst a course is in progress (user quiz choices, completion etc.)

Hootsuite

Hootsuite is social media manager, which is great for posting to multiple social media accounts, at different times, in different timezones. We can create campaigns and schedule them at convenient times to maximise our audience’s contact.  Follow us on Facebook and Twitter stayed tuned for DB news!

Brackets

The dev team’s favourite text editor! Brackets is modern, powerful and brilliant for web developers of any level with loads of useful visual features to make the coding process more intuitive.
